Former Sports CS Rashid Echesa who was fired by President Uhuru Kenyatta has broken his silence, delving in yesterday’s events that saw him kicked out of the cabinet.

Echesa who was speaking at a funeral in Marinya Village, Kakamega County stated that he is yet to know why he was fired by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He expressed gratitude for having been given the chance to serve the country in his previous role and urged his supporters to remain calm.

“It is within President Kenyatta’s mandate to hire and fire but still I would also want to know what happened.

I am cool and also want to urge my supporters and Luhyas to remain calm. I remain grateful to the President for offering me an opportunity to serve in his cabinet,” Echesa said.

Speaking at the same event, MUmias East MP Benjamin Washiali maintained that the decision to fire Echesa was in bad faith bearing in mind that he is among the few people who went against the NASA wave in Western Kenya, campaigning aggressively for Jubilee.

“It was tough selling the Jubilee agenda in Western and Echesa was among people who went out of their way to propagate Jubilee and create in-roads for Kenyatta to access the region,” Washiali opined.

Echesa whose sacking was as controversial as his appointment was dropped after featuring in a number of scandals that painted his ministry in bad light and was replaced by Amina Mohamed.

His tenure at the sports docket was market by scandals. Key among them was the arrest of eight Pakistani belly dancers in Parklands who claimed that they were in the country with his full permission.
