Why troubled DCI released Joseph Kori from police custody without orders

Detective John Wahome who is from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations homicide Unit department found himself in hot soup following the release of slain Mary Wambui’s husband Joseph Kori from police custody.

The sources who sought anonymity said Mr Kori was picked up by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and interrogated for a few minutes outside the cell but was not returned to custody.

The officers are said to have later returned to the station and signed that they had released Mr Kori.

Appearing before Kiambu senior principal magistrate Stella Atambo, detective John Wahome was forced to apologise for disregarding court orders during the release of the businessman.

The court had stated that the police were in contempt for releasing the suspect before taking him back to court for clearance.

In his defence, however, Wahome explained that he set the suspect free after he found that he was not connected to the murder of his slain wife.

He further divulged that after carrying out satisfactory investigations, the agency preferred to carry on with the murder charges labelled against Judy Wangui and the taxi driver Michael Mathenge.
