Attending the launch of the State of the Judiciary and Administration of Justice Report 2019 on Thursday, Deputy President William Ruto wore a pair of jeans, which he explained that he did not mean to offend the judicial system.
During the event the Dp had an official attire on his upper part of the body;
a red necktie, a white shirt and a checked grey formal coat.
The event was presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta. Chief Justice David Maraga also oversaw the launch.
“Your Excellency, it was my first time to go to the Office of the Chief Justice; I have never been there. And, when we came here [venue of launch], to witness this very important occasion, I am the only one here who is a bit out of place because I am not appropriately dressed,” said DP ruto.
“I want to apologise the Honourable Chief Justice; I was dressed to go to another occasion out of town. But, when my boss told me that I should be here, I had no choice.
“I know you had invited me, but my invitation may have delayed. But, it is not out of disrespect that I am dressed this way. I want to apologise to you. And, it has nothing to do with what I have said before. We have said many things before. I want to say that we respect and have the highest regard for our judicial systems, we do; both as individuals and as government,” said DP Ruto.
During his address, President Kenyatta urged the Judiciary to evenly spread out the fight on graft, and that “crooks” from whichever part of Kenya should be subjected to the same legal parameters.
President Kenyatta also offered space at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre for Court of Appeal judges to use as the Judiciary makes plans to get the law enforcement agents offices elsewhere.
