Brendan Rodgers has been confirmed as Liecester‘s new manager, replacing Claude Puel on a three-year contract at the club.
The Northern Irishman joins from Scottish champions Celtic after three years at Parkhead. He moves to the King Power with assistant manager Chris Davies, fitness coach Glenn Driscoll and first team coach Kolo Toure.
In a statement released upon his unveiling, the 46-year-old said: “I’m very privileged and honoured to be here as Leicester City manager and I’ll give my life to make the supporters proud of their club.
“Together, we’ll be stronger and I’m looking forward to working with the players, staff and supporters to make the right steps forward.”
Leicester are understood to have approached Rodgers early in the week in an effort to make a swift appointment for Puel’s replacement, having sacked the Frenchman after the weekend’s 4-1 home defeat by Crystal Palace.
Rodgers returns to Premier League for the first time since being sacked by Liverpool in October 2015.
Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, Leicester’s vice chairman, said he was “absolutely delighted” to welcome Rodgers to the King Power Stadium.
“I look forward to seeing what he, our talented, young squad and our dedicated, skilled team of staff can achieve together,” he added.
“As projects, including the development of our new training ground and the proposed expansion of King Power Stadium continue to take shape, and as a young squad of great potential begins to mature, Brendan and his colleagues arrive at an exciting time for Leicester City.
“We’re continuing to grow as a Club and I am anticipating that Brendan’s coaching methods, knowledge and experience can enhance our journey.”
Following his departure, Celtic are now poised to appoint Neil Lennon as their interim manager until the end of the season.
The former captain and manager won five league titles as a player with Celtic and two more coaching the team, and would likely add an eighth to that list, given their position eight points clear of Rangers at the top this season.
First team coach John Kennedy will be promoted to assistant manager with Damien Duff moving up from reserve team manager to join Lennon’s backroom staff.
