‘‘The Kiamaiko slaughter house traders should not be forcefully evicted and if possible lets the current slaughter house be converted to butcheries as they move out systematically.’’ Komo said. According to Komo 70 % of those working in the slaughter house are young people and chasing them will lead them resorting to crime.
‘‘The facility employs so many youths and its prudent we consider this before making any harsh move that may affect the day-day operations.’’ He added. Kiamaiko Slaughter House is now in the process of moving from where its currently located Mathare constituency to Njiru.
The move have been prompted by several complains by sections of members of the public and National Environment Management Authority NEMA over its questionable health state. Agriculture committee Nairobi City county assembly has recommended that the slaughter house be given time and relocate without being forced.
According to the committee chairman JM Komo , Kiamaiko slaughter management has already agreed to move and they are in the process of constructing a new facility in Njiru.
