A man from Konoin Constituency, Bomet County is nursing serious injuries sustained from allegedly being thrown out of a speeding police land cruiser.
Speaking to the press while on a hospital bed, Wesley Bosuben, 31, claimed that the six police officers who had arrested him, together with another trader, Robert Mutai, demanded a Ksh 10,000 bribe which he could not provide.
They, thereafter, reportedly threw him out of the moving car causing him multiple leg fractures.
“The police officers stopped us outside an eatery after we closed the business for the day at around 9pm on Tuesday last week and bundled us into a waiting police land cruiser,” narrated Bosuben.
Bosuben, who was taken to Litein AIC Mission hospital in Kericho County, further revealed that the hospital bill had grown to Ksh 50,000 but he could only settle Ksh 20,000 after having a surgery operated on his legs. Everyday he spends at the facility costs him Ksh 2,500.
“I cannot afford to pay the bill which is increasing by the day as I am an orphan and I do not have a National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) cover,” he continued.
A doctor who treated Bosuben confirmed that he had indeed been admitted with multiple leg fractures and that a surgery had been performed on him with another one due in two weeks time.
Konoin Divisional Police Commander Alex Shikondi, however, refuted the claims revealing that the victim had jumped from the moving vehicle on his own.
“Police on patrol arrested a number of youths at Kipkoibet trading centre and while on their way to the station, they found the road barricaded by youths who pelted the police car with stones. The officers fired several in the air to disperse the youths,” explained Shikondi.
