Rodgers was tipped as the heavy favourite to replace Puel after he was sacked by the English Premier League club on Sunday.

But it has been reported Rodgers is set to leave the Hoops after being given permission to speak to the Foxes.

The Northern Irishman has won seven trophies out of seven since replacing Ronny Deila in 2016.

It is understood Chris Davies and Kolo Toure are also set to leave the Hoops.

Neil Lennon, who is out of work after leaving Hibernian, is in the frame to take charge of the Hoops until the end of the season.

First-team coach John Kennedy is expected to take charge of Celtic for tomorrow’s trip to Tynecastle to face Hearts.

The Hoops are eight points clear of the top of the Scottish Premiership and face Hibernian in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup this weekend.
