MY COMMITMENT TO THE YOUTH AGENDA I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate my enduring commitment to the youth agenda and in particular, that of comrades studying in our institutions of Higher Learning. During my time as a student leader, I served as the Chairman of the Students Organization of Nairobi University for four consecutive terms and as the President of the Kenya Union of Students Organization for four terms. I further currently serve as the Leader of the Youth For Africa Movement bringing together thousands of young people from across the continent. I hold the issues of this constituency close to my heart! I take note of the proposal by Vice Chancellors of Universities to increase fees in the coming financial year and I would like to caution them to expect fire and brimstone from me if they dare make such a move. Education is a human right not a luxury. These university CEOs need to realize that education is not a preserve of the rich. If it were not for education, I would not be where I am today and I will not accept for my fellow youths to be locked out of opportunities. Furthermore, I dare the authorities to arrest even one youth for HELB Loan default! They will see fire! We will no longer tolerate this abuse of young people by the establishment. We will no longer listen to this casual and reckless talk regarding the lives of our youth. They must know people! Finally, I wish to make it known that I am rallying support for a bill in parliament to make it illegal for Government to request for work experience, HELB clearance, CRB clearance or any other clearance that will require candidates to pay when hiring. We are serious with this youth agenda and we will no longer beg! God bless the youth, God bless Kenya! Comrade Babu Owino, MP, Embakasi East and Leader, Youth For Africa Movement.
