Why Narok and not Kajiado will host this Year’s Madaraka Day Celebrations

President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed that this year’s Madaraka Day Celebrations be held in Narok County and not Kajiado as it had been earlier planned.

This is after Uhuru met the National Celebrations Committee at State House on Monday morning. The Committee which is led by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i briefed the head of State that the construction of the Kajiado Stadium will not be completed within the next three months, to host the celebrations.

The Committee expressed concerns that the Kajiado stadium construction works may not be completed within the remaining three months as earlier envisaged. Consequently, President @UKenyatta directed that this year’s Madaraka Day Celebrations be held in Narok County.— State House Kenya (@StateHouseKenya) February 25, 2019

” By moving the celebrations from Kajiado to Narok County, the Govt seeks to ensure that the benefits arising from the hosting of the national event are retained within the same economic block in line with the established trend of hosting some national events in the Counties. ” said a communique from State House.

DP William Ruto had announced last month that Kajiado would host this year’s event. Madaraka Day is marked as the Day Kenya gained its internal self rule.

Nakuru, Kakamega, Nyeri and Machakos counties are some of the counties that have hosted national events in the recent past.
