There was shock and despair in Kisii when a coffin of a child who was buried yesterday was found next day morning near a river.
A villager who was going to fetch water noticed the coffin from a distance. Due to fear, she raised alarm. When other villagers arrived they found a coffin lying near a river. After thorough scrutiny they discovered it belonged to a child who was buried yesterday evening.
The baby was buried on Tuesday, February 19, at Enchoro-Mosobeti area and the casket was retrieved the following day from River Keera, over 10 kilometres away.
Eye witnesses said they also recovered a book with a list of names of people who are yet to die. Confirming the incident, Enchoro location chief James Orina, said they had positively identified the coffin but they were yet to know where the body was.
“The family has identified the coffin so we can’t deny. Why they exhumed the body is a question to be answered by those who practice witchcraft,” he said.
Surprisingly, the incident happened a few kilometres away from Nyakeore church in which a miraculous photograph is reported to have been printed on the wall showing witches surrounding a man’s body.
In 2009, a video emerged on social media in which a consortium of witch hunters in Kisii county went on a rampage burning down houses and those suspected to engage in witchcraft.
