Nigerian Opposition Suspects Foul Play in Elections As Buhari Takes An Early Lead

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has taken an early lead in the presidential elections on Monday against the People’s Democratic Party.

This has led to accusations by the opposition that the government is looking to manipulate results to favor their clinch to power.

According to reports, the 76-year-old Buhari running via the All Progressives Congress Party (APC) garnered 57 percent of the vote in Ekiti, a southwestern state, which was the first to announce the results.

But PDP chairman Uche Secondus said the ruling APC was colluding with the electoral commission.

The APC was using “impeachments, manipulation, incarceration”, state agencies and ministers to rig the outcome, he charged.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has blamed logistical issues as the reason behind why the voting process was heading into the second day,
