Tragedy hit both a hospital and parents after a form three student decided to end her life inside a toilet at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital.
The 17-year-old had been admitted to the hospital on Friday complaining of pain in the stomach and vomiting.
Officials said they believed the student at a secondary school in Kikuyu Kiambu county killed herself after learning she was pregnant.
According to preliminary findings, scans had revealed that she was nine weeks pregnant.
“This seemed to have shocked her and we believe it led to the unfortunate incident,” said an official.
The body was found hanging in the toilet on Saturday afternoon after she was reported missing from her bed.
Police were called and the body was taken to the mortuary after her parents were informed of the incident .
