Who is Manchester United’s number one striker? Gary speaks out

Manchester United is enjoying their come-back-to-form Manchester and the fans are liking the developments thanks to the coming of Solskjaer who has undoubtedly transformed the team much of them all Martial who was at the times of leaving. But who is United’s striker? Gary spoke out on the matter.

United’s number one striker is now Marcus Rashford, not Romelu Lukaku, according to former United captain Gary Neville.

The former United defender won eight Premier League titles during his playing career at Old Trafford and has been impressed by the work done by his former team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since replacing Jose Mourinho two months ago.

United have lost just once under the Norwegian, with Rashford now the man leading the line in Solskjaer’s new-look attack.

The England international looks comfortable in the pacey attack, forming promising partnerships with the likes of Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba as United continue to look like a team transformed since Mourinho’s departure.

The 21-year-old has scored six goals and added a further two assists in his 12 appearances under the new manager and Neville believes it is clear that Rashford has usurped Lukaku as the club’s top striker.

“He looks incredible,” Neville told Sky Sports. “If you think about him over the last two years, he has been moved around. He’s played left, right, up front and on the bench.

“If you look at last season around the Cardiff game, he didn’t look like he was going to get an opportunity as a centre-forward. Now he’s aggressive and quick and is a goal-scorer.

“Rashford has had to move around and now he is the number one. United can now attack with pace and that’s not a slight on Lukaku. United need pace and he gives them that.”

Key to Rashford’s new-found responsibilities have been United’s change in approach, and Neville believes they will pose Liverpool a real threat on Sunday, while having to remain vigilant.

He explained: “United are better counting attacking in the last couple of months. Liverpool are the better at counter attacking, though, so it will be interest to see who wants to dominate possession and who drops off.

“If Liverpool counter attack United, they could score three or four goals. However, if it’s the other way around, it could happen the other way as well.
