What Matiang’i wants CJ Maraga to do to expedite government projects

There are government officials who genuinely mean good for our nation.

I hope with the ongoing radical changes in government you have such officers in mind. Guess who?

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i in a meeting with
Chief Justice David Maraga on Friday appealed that the clogged court cases to be hastened so as to ensure government projects do not stall.

Matiang’i reached out to the CJ to intervene over Ksh350 Billion projects currently stalled as a result of prolonged court cases.

He stated that there was an urgent need to review the procedures of issuing ex-parte orders to various interest groups at the expense of the general public interest.

“The government is not in any way seeking favorable rulings but fair and timely judgement,” Matiang’i remarked.

He was accompanied by a delegation that included Attorney-General Kihara Kariuki, Cabinet secretaries Farida Karoney and James Macharia, Solicitor-General Kennedy Ogeto and Interior PS Karanja Kibicho.

They asked the CJ to come up with a framework for co-operation with the Judiciary with a view to hastening litigation of these cases.

They stated that the Cabinet had established that prolonged adjudication of cases was one of the major bottlenecks in the implementation of government projects.

CJ Maraga recognised the need for co-operation among the three arms of government, commenting that the Judiciary was committed to resolving all court cases that constrained effective delivery of development projects.

On February 5, Matiang’i chaired his first cabinet meeting following his appointment by President Uhuru as the Chairperson of a newly constituted National Development Implementation and Communication Committee.

Reports suggest that there is feeling within the government that the stalled projects will hurt Uhuru’s legacy and there is need to get them underway for Kenyans to enjoy improved services.
