Not Again!! Inferno razes popular joint in Diani

A popular joint Maasai Bar and Hotel Diani, Kwale County was on Friday night burnt by a huge inferno. It is reported that the fire destroyed porperties and equipment whose value was yet to be established.

According to Msambweni divisional police commander Joseph Chebusit, the fire started in one of the rooms in the hotel section.

He revealed that the bar side was most affected, according to a preliminary assessment.

Chebusit, however, stated that they were yet to establish the cause of the fire, adding that fighter fighters had put it out.

Elsewhere on February 10, a fire broke out at Leopard Beach Hotel in Diani, Kwale County.

The fire spread to two neighbouring cottages destroying property worth millions of shillings, including six blocks of houses with 209 rooms. 200 guests were successfully evacuated.

Authorities believed that the fire was sparked from fireworks on a makuti-thatched cottage during a wedding celebration.

In 2012, another inferno broke out at the same premises and fortunately, no injuries were reported.

However, normal operations in Leopard Beach Hotel have since resumed.
