Gone but not Forgotten: Late Governor’s family organize free cancer screening for memorial

From cervical cancer, prostate cancer to breast cancer, the family of former Nyeri Governor the Late Nderitu Gachagua has organized for a Free cancer medical camp in Karatina, Nyeri County to honour him during his memorial.

The camp will entail screening of prostate, cervical and breast cancer. Hypertension, heart diseases, diabetes and eye-checkups will also be treated at the camp among other ailments.

The free medical camp will be held hand in hand with his memorial on February 23, 2019. The testing will run for a whole day from 6am-4pm in Karatina, Nyeri County.

The Late Gachagua served as the MP for Mathira constituency before becoming Governor.

He was the first governor to pass away while still in office. Upon his death, his family members and friends described him as a hardworking and dedicated father, husband and leader.

“He was so determined to work for the people of Nyeri that he said he would manage the condition while still working as Nyeri governor. It took me aback but I respected his decision,” noted a family friend.

It will be 2 years since the late governor’s demise come his memorial.
Governor Gachagua succumbed to Pancreatic Cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London while undergoing treatment in 2017.
