The Three Things Gor Mahia Must Do to Give Algeria’s Hussein Day a Proper Beating

Kenyan Premier League Defending Champions Gor Mahia once again have their destiny in their own hands with another high profile CAF Confederations match awaiting them.

Gor is set to face Algerian Side Hussein Dey after winning one and loosing one in their first two group matches.

Kogallo recorded a 4-2 win against Zamalek in a Group D opener, before falling 2-1 away to Petro Atletico of Angola in Luanda last week.

So what does Gor Mahia have to do to beat Hussein De, the only unbeaten side in the Group and in the process go top?

Well, below are the three things Gor Mahia must do to emerge victorious:

Stop Hussein Dey from the wings

Just like Zamalek, Hussein Dey is well known for using pace especially on the wings; most moves and attacks are channeled through the wings. Gor Mahia has best fullbacks to do the job. Shafik Batambuze and Philemon Otieno, if fit, will have to stop all attacks from the wing. The wingers will also have to track back and help the defenders to ensure they are not burdened by the opponents. If Gor Mahia can stop their opponents from using their wingers, they will stand a chance of getting a good result.

Convert created chances

Gor Mahia has been creating chances for sure, but converting the same into goals is a problem. They cannot afford to do the same mistake against Hussein Dey because they know where they are at the moment. The likes of Jacques Tuyisenge, Boniface Omondi, Samuel Onyango and Dennis Oliech, have to be clinical. If the strikers do their job well, the defenders will have it easy

Replace keeper Boniface Oluoch

It is a bold move that coach Hassan Oktay has to take. To be fair, Oluoch is the most experienced goalkeeper within the Kā€™Ogalo set up but of late, his agility has been questionable. He conceded relatively easy goals against Zamalek and against Petro Atletico. In short, he is a weak link in the defense and it is high time he watched from the bench. Peter Odhiambo has proven severally that he can be thrown into the deep waters and still perform. The opponents have most probably studied Oluoch and it will not be a surprise if they expose him again.
