Here’s How City Hall Lost a Kshs 100 Million Yesterday!

Revenue collections in the city came to a halt yesterday after striking workers decided to cutoff power to the City Hall offices as well as the county offices.

According to Parking Director Tom Tinega, county officials had no idea about the cause of the blackout.


“There is a blackout since morning but I’m not sure of the cause “

Nevertheless, a section of workers who wished to remain anonymous for fear of being arrested revealed they were behind the switching off of the electricity.

Additionally, the striking workers also denied to collect any revenue as the strike went into the second week.

City Hall collects an average of Ksh100 million daily through cash and the JamboPay e-payment system.

The striking staff consisting of over 15,000 staff workers who downed their tools failing the county government’s inability to increase their salaries.

The move has resulted in the loss of millions of shillings in revenue which is yet to be collected by workers.

In a statement, here’s what Tinega had to say:

“There is nothing happening now. Parking and market fees have been hit most because they are collected daily and the workers are not on duty. The loss is huge but I cannot quantify for now,”

Nevertheless, the current strike is likely to make February the toughest month for the county in terms of collections.
