Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to open up and tell Kenyans whether or not he wants a referendum.K

At leaders meeting in Kisii School on Wednesday, the third term MP seemed to suggest that Uhuru is keeping Kenyans in a twist without choosing who to stand with between DP William Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“I was Chairman of Tanga Tanga in Gusii, I was worked with this guy (Ruto) and Prime Minister who mentored me. I have worked with you before and after you became president. What do you guys really want? Are we having referendum or not? We don’t want this guy (Ruto) to say this and PM to say that. Mr President come out and solve this riddle,” stated the MP.

While Mr Odinga has been pushing for a parliamentary system of government, Ruto has often opposed such moves, accusing the ODM leader of putting the country in electioneering mode.

And their allies have often gone offensive against each other, with Ruto’s team challenging Uhuru to declare his stand on proposed referendum.

During the meeting, Uhuru stayed clear politics, only emphasizing the need to have unity and peace in the country, remarks that were emphasized by both Raila and Ruto.

“As leaders, we have a debt with the people of Kenya. Let’s avoid politicking all the time. Deliver promises first, preach peace and you will be my good friend,” he said.

Mr Onyonka has been leading a team of both Nyamira and Kisii leaders in drumming support for Ruto ahead of 2022 polls. He closely works with Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi.

Under the parliamentary system that is being rooted by Odinga’s team, Prime Minister will be head of government will the president will be Head of State with his powers largely remaining ceremonial.
