Arsenal Manager Unai Emery believes it is Only Ozil’s efforts that can make him to the starting eleven and not just by mere selectionto the play. Unai says that Mesut Ozil is the only person responsible for gaining his place back in the Arsnal team.
The German play maker has only made two appearances for the Gunners since being taken off at half-time in the 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion on Boxing Day.
Only one of those was starts, but he has failed to feature ever since he played for 76 minutes in the 2-1 win over Cardiff at the end of January.
A variety of injuries and illnesses have been blamed for his absences, but Emery says that he could return for Thursday’s Europa League clash at home to BATE Borisov.
“The key is in his hands. He is working very well this week,” Emery told Wednesday’s press conference prior to the game.
“I ask him in our conversation for consistency, to be available for us for training, when you can train consistently you can help us with your best performance in the games.
“This week has been good for all the players. I am looking at him doing the training like we want.”He needs to be available consistently for training, without the injuries, without the sickness.”
Mesut has not played or started in the better part of the season since Unai took over from Wenger who used to start him in almost every game.
The Gunners go into the game having lost the first leg 1-0 in Belarus last week.
