Self proclaimed single mother’s ‘President’ and Controversial but talented Kenyan singer Akothee is loved and hated in equal measure and for the past few days, she has been trending this time round for the bad wrong reasons.
This is after a section of Kenyans were irked by a photo that was taken during the singer’s concert down at the coast over the weekend.
Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) chairman Ezekiel Mutua condemned the artiste’s moves saying her ‘stupid stunts’ should not be tolerated.
Through a Facebook post, Mutua acknowledged that the singer is talented but cannot be a role model for young girls.
Akothee is talented but the filthy and stupid stunts she has to pull to remain relevant should concern all of us…People like Akothee cannot be the role models for our daughters. Music doesn’t have to be dirty to sell.S
“How I wish artists like Akothee would know how much influence they have on our youths and try to use that influence to produce content that is edifying,” read his statement in part.
Akothee has now come out to respond to her critics, accusing them of double standards.
Through a series of posts, the singer stated that people should let her be since no one is helping her to pay bills.
“When I was broke I was nobody’s role model, now that I am rich and famous, you want to ride on my money and fame…take responsibility for your own children, take their phone and unfollow me , I am ratchet, period, what happened to your church pastors , aunties sisters and grandmothers , No one is paying me for role model position and no one pays me for manners…” she wrote.
She further added: “Kenyans see a prostitute and disgrace but the world saw a talented megastar…sasa fanyeni hivi Come arrest me.”
