The court on Tuesday morning set free a man who had been accused of trying to smuggle his baby out of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
The baby’s father Boniface Murage was stopped by the security guards at the hospital gate after they opened his bag and discovered the baby.
Mr Boniface Murage 22, had pleaded guilty to the offence before Senior Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe at the Milimani Law Courts.
His lawyer however, pleaded for leniency before Magistrate Caroline Nzibe arguing that his client was genuinely unable to pay the bill.
The court has handed Bonface Murage a three-month suspended sentence meaning he will be free but on State watch for the said period of time and is not expected to commit any other offence.
Sonko Comes to the Rescue
Following up on this, the Nairobi Governor left with his team for KNH where he cleared the medical bill of the couple and baby.
Sonko’s deed comes a day after the father tried to smuggle his daughter out of the hospital using a carrier bag.
