Inspector of Police Emmanuel Tamooh, who was celebrated by many Kenyans for participating in rescue mission during Dusit Terror attack in January, has featured again in media for his act of kindness.
Mr Tamooh, who is attached to Kangemi Administration Police (AP) camp, parted with Ksh56, 000 in a bid to help Ongata Rongai man, who on Monday attempted to sneak his one-month old daughter out of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) over his inability to raise Ksh56, 000 medical bill.
Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, offset the suspect Boniface Murage’s unpaid bill late Monday.
Mr Murage was arrested and, on Tuesday, charged at the Milimani Law Courts, where he was given a suspended three-month sentence.
“I woke up and went to Kenyatta Hospital, where I was told that he [Murage] was released yesterday [Monday] after Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko settled his bill. And, because I had offered to use that money on him, I decided to come to the courts and hand it over to him. I don’t know him, he doesn’t know me. Maybe the Ksh56, 000 will help him offset other needs,” said Mr Tamooh.
“I urge Mr Murage not to engage in crime for the next three months – as ordered by the court, or [if possible], shun crime forever,” said the AP inspector.
“It is not that we are supporting what he did. What he did was unlawful; ni makosa, it was criminal; hata alistahili kufungwa. Lakini, we tell the judge ‘thank you’ for her decision. On humanitarian grounds, I understand he had to do what he did because of poverty. I decided to sacrifice my few months’ salary to help Murage,” said Mr Tamooh.
