Heart of Gold: Nairobi County Governor comes to the rescue of Troubled family

Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko has come to the rescue of the family of Boniface Murage, the 22-year-old father who was arrested smuggling his daughter from the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) over a Ksh56,000 bill.

The governor visited the man’s wife,  Agnes Murage, at KNH and cleared the pending bill, but did not stop there. After she was released, Gov. Sonko took her on a shopping spree where he bought an assortment of items for Agnes and her young baby.

The county boss empathized with Boniface, explaining that the love for his daughter made the 22-year-old turn to crime and become an outlaw.

“He is only 22 years and jobless but the love for his daughter forced him to mess the law just like any father,” stated Sonko.

The story of his arrest sparked a lot of emotion from Kenyans who also shared Boniface’s frustrations.

BBC Journalist Larry Madowo who is of Kenyan origin also offered a helping hand by offering to get a lawyer for the young man to help him avoid being separated from his family and even a  possible jail term.

Boniface was intercepted by security guards at the Kenyatta National Hospital while carrying a blue bag on February 16, 2019, who forcefully opened it only to find a baby(his daughter).

Appearing before Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe, the father disclosed that he feared his wife and daughter would stay at the facility forever if he did not act, hence his reason for sneaking his daughter out.

Murage pleaded guilty after revealing that he had made the move because he did not have money to settle the hospital bill.
