Chelsea Manager, Maurizio Sarri worried about results not fans who threatened him with sacking

Maurizio Sarri was left clinging onto his job as Chelsea fans jeered the beleaguered boss as they crashed out of the FA Cup on Monday night.

The Blues were blitzed by Manchester United, who booked their quarter-final slot after goals from Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba.

During the 2-0 defeat, Chelsea supporters chanted ‘F*** Sarri-ball’, ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’, and ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ as tempers flared.

However the Italian said: ‘I am worried about the results. Not about the fans. I can understand the situation and our fans, because the result wasn’t really good.

‘We are out of the FA Cup, so I can understand our fans. But I am worried at the moment about our results.’

The result and tame performance pushes Sarri closer to the sack, but the under-fire boss insists is not worried about getting fired and insists his relationship with the players is not at rock-bottom.

He said: ‘It’s not my problem (if I am given more time). My problem is to start preparing the next game and to work with my players to try and improve in a few days, and find more determination, more aggression.

‘The players do not completely grasp my style of play at the moment. But I think the players are with me. Of course I am not sure, but I think so.

‘I think the situation with the players is really very good for the relationship, but the relationship is not so important.

‘It’s important to play, it’s important to get good results, but my relationship with my players is good at the moment.’

In contrast, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer strengthened his claim to become full-time United manager wit this resounding win.

All eyes were on United to see how they’d respond to last week’s disappointing loss to Paris Saint Germain, the first loss under the Norwegian.

Solskjaer’s side passed the test with flying colours and the United boss said: ‘It’s massive, of course, to bounce back. You want to see a reaction and the players have been brilliant in training.

‘We were quite confident going into this game that we had found the right team selection and temperament. There’s a balance between being too eager after losing a game, so today was brilliant.’
