Senate Minority Leader James Orengo has told off politicians opposed to constitution review.
Orengo accused some politicians of dismissing proposals tabled before the Building Bridges initiative (BBI) team before studying and understanding them.
“Some are already criticizing proposals to expand the executive saying it is aimed at benefiting certain people. This is wrong,” he said.
The Siaya Senator was speaking yesterday at St Stephens Cathedral Church in Kisumu, during the 25th memorial of former Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. He called on more Kenyans to submit proposals to the BBI team, saying the suggestions were still subject to debate.
“There should be absolutely no reason for someone to pour cold water on the suggestion about the expansion of the executive,” he said.

Orengo told critics of constitution review to allow Kenyans decide on the way they want to be governed.
He exuded confidence that the BBI team that has been tasked with collecting views on proposed law changes was up to the task.
Speaking in the same forum, former freedom fighter Gitu Wa Kahengeri, who led a team of former Mau Mau fighters to the memorial, supported calls for constitution review saying this would unite the country.
“Let us allow the constitution to be amended to allow a more cohesive society,” said Kahengeri.
Speaker after speaker at the well-attended memorial paid tribute to Jaramogi Oginga’s role in fighting for democracy in the country.
“No one is self sufficient or good enough to claim absolute authority and power. This is what made Jaramogi to push for multiparty democracy,” said Kahengeri.
Norbert Mao, a Ugandan politician and lawyer, and Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa lauded the March 9, 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga, who led the memorial.
