Police boss Boinnet orders for restoration of peace in Turkana border

Rift Valley Regional Police Commander Edward Mwamburi has been ordered by the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to utilize all available police resources to stop violence and restore peace along the border of Turkana-West Pokot counties.

“We wish to inform that in the wake of the recent spate of rustling / bandit attacks around Kainuk and its environs along the border of Turkana/ West Pokot Counties, the Inspector General has ordered the Regional Police Commander, Rift Valley to use all available police resources to stop the violence and restore order to allow members of the public to lead normal lives,” Boinnet said in a statement to the press.

The  police have been further instructed by the General to step up investigations against individuals who are believed to be inciting violence in the area.“The RPC has further been ordered to step up investigations into the role of certain identified individuals who are suspected of inciting violence in the area and bring them to book in accordance with the law,” he added.

He also seeked cooperation from the members of the public in aiding the police officers in their efforts to restore calm and deal with rustlers who are out to wreck havoc in the area.

Attacks in Kainuk shopping centre in the border of West Pokot and Turkana Counties have so far left more than five people dead and five others sustaining injuries according to the Kenya Red Cross.
