The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Uganda’s leading Telecommunications Company MTN Wim Vanhelleputte was arrested, handcuffed, briefly detained at Entebbe International Airport and later Indefinitely deported to his home country Belgium.
Uganda Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga revealed that the Belgium National was kicked out of the country for charges related to National Security. The spokesperson didn’t dig in detail the genesis of the whole fracas.

However Mr.Wim is not the first MTN worker to be deported, earlier deportations saw the company’s Chief Marketing Officer French Cameroonian Oliver Prentout, General manager, Sales and Distribution Rwandese Annie Bilenge Tabura and General Manager Mobile Money Italian Elza Muzzolini all facing the same fate over National Security Concerns.
All the deported nationals are linked to activities of supporting subversive activities backed by a foreign government using MTN mobile Money and numerous un registered sim cards.
