Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, on Friday, issued a warning on the upcoming census exercise.
Via his social media, the Jubilee legislator cautioned neighbouring countries not to interfere with the exercise.
“Dear Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, and the Indian Ocean. We are about to embark on a Biometric Census. This is about Kenyans.
“Do not try to get your nationals to cross over to beef up the numbers of some communities. This simply won’t work. We will use biometric technology, not improvised explosive devices (IED’s),” he wrote on Facebook.
His post elicited mixed reactions online with many opining that his remarks were targetted at Majority Leader Aden Duale .
“Dear Kuria, don’t drag other countries into this, we know you are stressed by Duale. There are better ways you can vent your frustrations. To the drunkards, please don’t bring bottles to border towns, we usually drink camel milk not alcohol. To the bartenders, it’s your responsibility to make sure clients don’t get drunk to madness,” one user noted.
Another exclaimed, “Kuria, you think we don’t know Central Republic’s schemes? Who doesn’t know that biometrics are just configured Kikuyu calculators?”
Others brought back the debate about the 2017 elections which was marred by irregularities and claims of electronic rigging.
“Even voting we voted using Biometric identification. And you went ahead to generate a President through a computer. So census also will be generated through a computer,” one Kenyan conveyed.
In January, the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), the body in charge of the exercise, concluded mapping for most of the 47 counties in preparation for the 2019 housing and population census.
The next census will be conducted in August 2019 from the night of 24/25 to August 31.
“All persons who will be found within Kenya’s boundaries on the night of 24th/25th August, 2019 will be counted regardless of whether they are visitors or not,” the organization explains on its website.
