National Land Commission boss Mohammed Swazuri who together with 16 others are facing charges in court of over the alleged conspiracy to defraud the government ksh 221.3million, abuse of office, breach of trust and fraudulent acquistion of public property has cleared his name.
Speaking at Iten town after a meeting with leaders from Elgeyo Marakwet county over compensation of families to be displaced by the construction of sh 62 billion Arror and Kimwarer dams along Kerio valley, he defended his reputation and record at NLC.
“Go to all areas where we have worked and no one will tell you that Swazuri is a thief. We have done good things for Kenyans and I will talk about it everywhere I go,” Swazuri said.
Swazuri, a land economist, said he had always been driven by the fear and respect of God in ensuring that he followed the law in the NLC work.
He said the latest move where an anti-corruption court barred him from accessing his office was part of the plot to undermine and frustrate his work ahead of his exit from office.
The DPP filed an urgent application in court on Tuesday, seeking to have Swazuri’s bond cancelled on grounds that he is interfering with witnesses in a corruption case against him.
