A stunning move by Cabinet secretaries to pocket public money worth billions has been unearthed by Interior CS Matiangi’ and Director of PublicProsecutions, Noordin Haji’s sniff dogs.
Three cabinet secretaries allegedly travelled all the way to Rome, Italy to receive bounty bribes for orchestrating a dark contract.
A probe has been launched by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations after discovery that a contractor engaged in government projects was contoversially paid ksh 7, billion ahead of process conclusion of acquiring land for the project.
The directors of an Italian firm have recorded a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in connection with the allegations.
This revelation was made on Tuesday during a meeting between contractors, Government officials and bosses of investigative agencies.
Over 500 contractors attended the meeting and were warned that foreign contractors would be jailed or deported for bribing public officers.
Interior PS Karanja Kibicho would read out the name of a project then call the respective CEO or PS and contractor to explain the progress and the challenges causing delays.
The meeting was chaired by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.
Those who attended the closed-door meeting at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies in Nairobi were asked to surrender their phones.
“We were frisked at the entrance and asked to hand over our phones to security,” a source intimated.
Powerful individuals, including members of the Cabinet, principal secretaries and parastatal chiefs mainly handling key infrastructural projects, are in a spot.
Mr Haji told the forum that he would nail those implicated in corrupt deals.
