BREAKING: Former Ruaraka OCS Nahashon Mutua sentenced to death

High Court sentence former Ruaraka Police OCS Nahashon Mutua to death.

He was accused of torturing a suspect, Martin Koome, to death at the Ruaraka police cells five years ago. Justice Stella Mutuku says the evidence was sufficient to convict the accused.

Mutua tried to frame Kevin Odhiambo, an inmate at the station, for his actions. Martin Koome was a miraa trader at Baba Dogo shopping center in Ruaraka, Nairobi.

Martin Koome had domestic wrangles when he came home drunk after day’s work. The prosecution showed the trial court how Mutua went to an extent of obstructing justice, even offering an Sh1 million bribe to investigators besides trying to frame Kevin Odhiambo.

The last death sentence to be carried out in Kenya was in 1987 when Hezekiah Ochuka and Pancras Oteyo Okumu were hanged for treason. In 2009, Kenya commuted all death sentences to life imprisonment, impacting over 4000 death row inmates.
