How convicted Police boss framed Innocent detainee

Fresh details have emerged on how death-sentence-bound Ex-Ruaraka police boss attempted to elude justice by implicating innocent people.

In a landmark ruling in the history of Kenya, Judge Martha Mutuku ruled that the prosecution proved beyond any reasonable doubt that Chief Inspector Nahashon Mutua killed Koome by clobbering him with a metal bar in the cell and immersing his head in water.

Eluded justice

In his defence, the former police boss told the court that he did not take part in any assault on the deceased Martin Manyara when he was arrested and restrained at Ruaraka Police station.

Instead, Mr Mutua blamed the torture on a cellmate whom he said had injured Martin after getting involved in a brawl inside the cell.

When put to task why the fight was not recorded on the Occurrence book. The defence failed to prove to the court also why the police officers manning Ruaraka police cells ailed to intervene if there was any fight at all in the first place.

Mistaken Identity

Leveraging his influence and popularity, Mutua succeeded in placing the blame on a cellmate, albeit shortly.

For a period of six months, Mr Kevin Odhiambo, lost hope of ever getting off the hook in a felony he did not commit.

But as it turned out, the truth finally arrived, and investigators came to realize they had been thrown into a wild goose chase.

Found Justice

Meanwhile, cellmates and police officers convinced that the man on trial was the wrong one presented to IPOA a counter-charge that showed that Mr Odhiambo was innocent, and had been framed by Mr Mutua.

Mr Mutua has been charged with murder, a penalty that carries a death sentence.
