So Sad! Five Killed after a Plane Crash in Londiani, Kericho County

Five are feared dead after light aircraft crashed at Kamwingi area in Londiani, Kericho County, according to a witness.

The Rift Valley Commander Edward Mwamburi has confirmed the incident but is yet to formally announce the number of casualties.

Mr Mwamburi has also indicated that the rescue teams and relevant authorities  were headed to the scene.

The Cessna plane, registration number 5Y-BSE, reportedly developed a mechanical hitch before tumbling down into the thick forest upon hitting a tree branch.

Reports indicate that the plane was flying from Mara to Lodwar and the first responders say there were five passengers on board.

Nation has reported that National Police Airwing Commander Rodgers Mbithi on Wednesday confirmed that all the five occupants had perished.

They include three men and two women, four whites and one black man, whose nationalities are yet to be established.

The plane is operated by Safari Link, Londiani Deputy County Commissioner Justus Munyao told the Nation.

Kenyans shared their views online with some questioning the safety of some of the aircrafts.

For instance, part of @MichaelMburu_  tweet reads, “.. this is the second accident to involve a Cessna aircraft . KCAA doesn’t have regulations on disposal of this old Cessna planes. Kindly avoid this death traps.”

Others have expressed their sadness of the disaster. @Asamoh tweeted, “Disheartening to see bodies of those killed after the plant crashed in Londiani.”

@itsmathewsnr_k says, “I heard the plane struggling with strong wind around londiani town where I believe it had a mechanical problems cause of sound and instability as it was trying to land minutes later it crashed out in makutano forest.”

The plane was ferrying the passengers from Ol Kiombo in the Mara to Lodwar in Turkana County.

The craft crashed on Masaita Forest View Village and landed on a farm a few minutes after 11am.

Rift Valley Police Commander Edward Mwamburi said police and rescue teams were headed to the scene.

The cause of the crash was not immediately established and investigators have started investigations, according to Nation.
