Disappointmenthas hit after postmortem exercise on Caroline Mwatha’s body which had been scheduled for today at the city mortuary has been pushed to Monday.
Family members and human rights activists said they gathered at morgue early on Wednesday only to be told the autopsy will not take place as earlier planned.
“We are disappointed by the news coming in from the DCI that the government is not ready to proceed with the autopsy today until Monday,” Haki Africa executive director Hussein Khalid said.
Earlier in expression of support with their own,an independent autopsy had been scheduled to be conducted by activists who had declared they wanted to have their own two independent pathologists supported by human rights sector within the country in the operation to unearth the real cause of Caroline’s death.
Detectives have thus far arrested six people in connection to the death of Ms Mwatha.
The Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti, in a statement issued Tuesday evening, said the suspects were arrested over Ms Mwatha’s alleged botched abortion and disposal of her body at a city morgue.
The six suspects linked to the death of human rights activist Caroline Mwatha have been detained by a court for 14 days pending investigations.
Makadara Chief Magistrate Heston Nyaga on Wednesday said that as much as they have a constitutional right to be released on bond, the six face a serious offence.
The suspects are Michael Onchiri, Betty Akinyi, Richard Ramoya, Alexander Gitau, Georgia Achieng and Stephen Maina.
