sad! Kenyan politician goes missing

A youthful politician, Billian Ojiwa, Founder of Ficha Uchi initiative is missing. His wife Nerima Wako, the CEO of Siasa Place and a columnist with The East African, says that she was with him at her parent’s house on Sunday when he stepped out at around noon. Ms. Wako said he walked out without carrying most of his possessions. ”He didn’t have his phone, his car keys or his office keys. I thought he had gone to the shop. I haven’t seen him since then.”

She has filed a report at the station and police at Nairobi’s Kilimani Police Station are investigating circumstances under which he went missing. His disappearance is trending topic on Twitter  with concerned Kenyans sharing the news of his disappearance through #FindBillianOjiwa.

Ojiwa who is in his early 30s, is a community leader at Mathare informal settlement. He is also celebrated for his campaign, the Ficha Uchi Initiative which donates school uniforms to children.  He is  the chairman of the youth congress of the Kenya African National Union (Kanu). He also started the Billian Music Family, an initiative that helps children record and market their music.In the 2013 General Election, he was one of the nine aspirants gunning to be Mathare MP, a race that was finally won by ODM’s Steven Kariuki after a by-election in 2014.

 

This comes in the backdrop of the disappearance of Dandora activist Carol Mwatha who went missing on Wednesday, February 6. She is a founder member and caseworker with Dandora Community Social Justice Centre, which has been documenting, lobbying and calling for police professionalism, public accountability and an end to extrajudicial killings.
