Women representation war in Kenyan parliament back on track with a heated debate expectations over the 50-50 gender rule.

Last year Marjority leader Aden Duale confidently maintained it was crucial for the 12th parliament to safe guard the constitution Bill 2018.

The bill requires the support of 233 MPs (two thirds of all the members) to pass. If it sails through the House and is assented to by the President, it will be effective after the 2022 General Election.

However a stumble block has arised already as Duale has taken another turn.He said the stalled two-thirds gender bill would be subjected to a vote next week.

Consequently, Duale said he would not postpone the vote on the bill as proposed by some women leaders.

“Tell those women who met at Serena Hotel that this bill is mine. They can go anywhere they want but the bill will be voted on. As far as I know there is no bill that belongs to women, the current bill is under my name and my signature and I can do what I want with it,” he said.

Currently, there are 76 women in the National Assembly — 23 elected MPs, 47 woman representatives and six nominated MPs. The Senate has 21 women —19 nominated and three elected members. The National Assembly has 349 members while the Senate has 67.

Does the bill stand a chance or its total failure?
