It’s well known that many African past leaders were blindfolded and didn’t analyze the impact of slave trade and colonialism to the next generation. Years have passed and the same leaders still hold the blame for giving a fertile ground that made slave trade and colonialism to survive for years in Africa.
This morning I attended a breakfast meeting at the Sheraton Hotel, Addis Ababa, where the African Union was observing the 400th Anniversary of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. I thank President @UKenyatta for hosting the meeting. pic.twitter.com/JFcZYtYsUQ

However, Uganda’s long serving president H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has no kind words for the past leaders whom he says were ignorant about the impacts of the historical fiesta that led to many Africans to slavery. “But the African leaders of the time cannot go minus blame. It was clear a strong external force was coming, what were they doing to counter it?” Museveni said.
The president made his remarks during the 400th Anniversary of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade at Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa which was hosted by his Kenyan counterpart H.E Uhuru Kenyatta
He however hailed Uhuru Kenyatta for hosting the forum before extoling him for embracing the pan-Africanism agenda, the forum was also attended by presidents Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, Felix Tshiekedi, Hage Geingob of Namibia and AU’s special envoy for infrastructure Raila Odinga.
Reason enough to unite as one continent and fight off such exploitation, which, unfortunately, still happens in different forms!
Also, Mr. President, this fight should begin with us as Ugandans, uniting as one people in order to defeat foreign exploitation!
