Solskjaer planning long-term as agent spotted speaking to Man United chiefs

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s agent was spotted speaking with Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodwood and co-chairman Avram Glazer after Saturday’s 3-0 win against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The victory propelled United into the Premier League’s top four and gave interim manager Solskjaer a eighth victory from nine Premier League matches since he took over from Jose Mourinho as United manager in December.

While Tuesday night’s Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain is now the focus of United’s attention, the sight of Woodward and Glazer talking Solskjaer’s agent Jim Solbakken will fuel rumours that the Norwegian is edging closer to being appointed as the club’s next permanent manager.

Solskjaer revealed Glazer congratulated his players after the game, but he didn’t reveal too many details about his discussions with the American businessman.

“I’ve just spoken to him,” Solskjaer said of Glazer. “He came into the dressing room. Of course they’re all happy after winning the game. Who I meet and when I meet people is not really up for me to tell.”

Solskjaer confirmed he is making plans for a long-term future at United, as he admitted he is looking beyond the end of this season in case he is given a chance to continue as at Old Trafford.

“I’ve always looked further ahead,” he continued. “I’ve followed United since I signed for United so of course, I look ahead.

“I look at the squad, I look at the players, who can produce and perform now, who can it in a year, who can do it in two.

“Even now we have players who can perform in six, seven, eight, nine years because we have a young exciting squad.

“At the moment I’m just concentrating on getting us up the table now we are fourth and let’s hope we can stay there.

“We want to get higher up of course but now we have taken the step into the top four it’s on to the next league game, which is Liverpool, and before that, we have a couple of nice games as well.”

Solskjaer went on to suggest he will look make changes to his team for Tuesday’s Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford, after he left Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard out of his starting line-up at Fulham.

“It’s a squad game,” Solskjaer stressed of his rotation. “And today, of course, it’s was a chance for everyone to say, ‘I want to play on Tuesday night’ because it’s a big game.

“You’ve got to trust the players because the league is vital for us, but it’s a chance for them to say, ‘I should play on Tuesday’. I’ve been in that situation a few times myself and it’s about who grabs it.”
