Will the Real Ingwe Turn Up at Kasarani?

Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia host arch-rivals AFC Leopards in the much talked about “Mashemeji derby” at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on Saturday afternoon.

But while encounters of years gone by literally brought the country to a stand still and turned the venue into a cacophony of crackling energy as the green of K’Ogalo competed for air with the blue and white of Ingwe, the latter day fixtures seem like a pale shadow in the twilight of a fading moonlight.

Most of this can be attributed to the poor form of Ingwe in recent encounters. Leopards currently lie 15th on the log, only one point from the relegation zone. Only Mt. Kenya United (22) have conceded more than their 16 goals this season.

Will such a porous defence have a chance against KPL’s most lethal striker Jacques Tuyisenge? Gor’s speedy forward Nicholas Kipkirui, who has netted in two consecutive matches will also fancy his chances in this match.

Leopards go into the match having lost their past three matches. The fact that they have not won the derby since 2016 also makes this a very one sided match. So will the real Leopards turn up this afternoon?

It will be very sad if Ingwe was to be relegated from the KPL this season.
