Gorasia given go-ahead to run for Embakasi South Parliamentary Seat

Rameshchandra Gorasia is one of the most prominent businessmen in Kenya.

For the past year, he has been in the spotlight regarding the back and forth court battles with the government over the demolition of Taj Mall.

Interestingly, the said businessman has now been given the green light by the Independent and Electoral Boundary Commission to run under the Democratic Party ticket for the Embakasi South Parliamentary seat.

After being cleared by the IEBC, the businessman has confidently stated that the residents of Embakasi will look to him to be their new representative in Parliament.

Nullification of Election

The seat that Gorasia is contesting for was declared vacant after it was confirmed by the Supreme Court that the election had irregularities.

He will be contesting the seat against Irshad Mohamed Sumra (ODM) and Julius Mawathe (Wiper).

This comes after the Supreme court declared the seat vacant through a successful petition by Sumra against Wiper’s Julius Mawathe.

In the petition, Sumra stated that the 2017 general election had plenty of irregularities, and the exercise was not free and fair.

Gorasia was the owner of Airgate Centre, which was demolished for allegedly being built upon a road reserve. The complex was valued at around Kshs 2 billion.
