JKUAT students on the road as insecurity flares

Tension is simmering in Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT) after a female  first-year student was killed Thursday evening.

The student body JKUSA, in a memo to students have organized a demonstration to protest the gruesome murder of one of their comrades.

Stabbed to death

Ms Tabitha Muthoni (pictured) was walking with a friend near Segal Hotel at around 8pm Thursday when they were accosted by thugs.

The robbers demanded their phones, and while Tabitha’s friend complied to the thug’s demands, she resisted.

A scuffle was to ensue afterwards that saw Tabitha stabbed on the neck as her friend fled for safety.

Tabitha was rushed to JKUAT hospital where she succumbed to her neck wounds.

DEMONSTRATION

The student union officials have protested the death of Tabitha Muthoni, terming it as heinous and sad.

In the memo addressed to students, JKUSA wrote in part: “This is to inform all students that we will be having a peaceful demonstration in Juja Enviros. Following series of killings, most recent having been on 7th Feb 2019 at Segal Hotel,”

Much as the demonstration will be peaceful, tension could flare up as this is not the first time a student is murdered in the same manner.

Only last May year, a student was stabbed to death when he alighted at Juja to meet friends before heading to his hostel.
