Janet Waiyaki, wife to city tycoon who was shot dead at city park Nairobi last year is alleged to be having an affair with her nephew. 26 years old Bernard Chege is actually a nephew to Janet’s husband. Family members confirmed that they had a very close relationship; “It was not the first time they were together whenever Janet didn’t have a car she would always rely on Bernard’s car.
In the time of the city park shooting, Janet’s car had broken down.Benerd has denied before high court the allegations that he was making love to his aunt before she was shot dead. He denies that he was having an affair with his aunt and says that he only learnt about the affair allegations through social media.
When asked what Janet’s under garments were doing in his car, he went silent saying that he couldn’t remember but on persuasions by the defense lawyer admitted that the clothes belonged to Janet;“They are a woman’s clothing”…”belonging to who?” “To Janet I presume.”
Before Janet met her death ,they had spent the previous whole day together. Bernard picked her at her home in Donholm after she called him and together proceeded to Pangani shopping center where they bought miraa and enjoyed with a group of friends.
Chege laughed on being asked what they were doing the whole night; ”we were just chewing Miraa..”They then left early in the morning in company of another friend, Koome, to the Great Rift Valley viewpoint.They arrived at 8 am. Bernard said they wanted to view the sunrise from the escarpments, take photos at the viewpoint and enjoy the moment but it was too cloudy.
On leaving view point ,Bernard says he wanted to take Janet home but she declined. She insisted that they should go to city park which they did. At city park, Benerd felt exhausted, parked the car and closed the doors. When he was about to doze off, he heard loud bangs on both sides of the Toyota fielder, woke up and saw a gun;“I got scared and switched on the car’s engine and began to drive off. But even before I could escape, the area was sprayed with bullets.” Asked why he was escaping, he said, “that was just my first reaction.” “Are you sure you did not drive off because you were guilty of committing incest?” “That is not true,” he said.
Bernard’s mother , Faith Wangeci says she was disgusted and ashamed when she heard of reports that her son was found naked with his aunt in the car.
