Misery of how a 49 year old class seven dropout hacked a bank and stole KSH. 27 million

This is one of the most crazy cases you will hear this year. The Judiciary has come under a lot of criticism in recent times over the way they have been handling different cases, the following story could make the noise against CJ David Maraga even louder.

A 49 year old, who can barely express herself in Kiswahili, is currently in custody after being charged with the loss of over KSH. 24 million from Consolidated Bank.

Francis Nthenya, who hails from Mitaboni, one of the most dusty parts of Ukambani, allegedly hacked into the bank’s electronic system and stole more than sh. 24.5 million.

She was charged on Tuesday at the Milimani Law Courts alongside her co-accused Penina Nduku. They were said to have committed the offence on January 1 last year and January 7 this year at an unknown place.

According to Nthenya’s lawyer, the woman has never operated a bank account and only presented herself to the police after seeing her pictures in the press.

“Your honour, the woman comes from the dusty parts of Ukambani. She has never operated a bank account. She only presented herself to the police after seeing her photo in the press,” the lawyer said.

They were released on a sh 300,000 bond with an alternative cash bail of Sh200,000. They will have to spend the next one month in remand since they can’t raise the money.
