Klopp Slammed for his ‘incredible’ Liverpool ‘error’

Jurgen Klopp has been criticised once again for not foreseeing an injury crisis and deciding to loan out a right-back who had barely played for Liverpool.

Liverpool sent Nathaniel Clyne out on loan to Bournemouth last month in a decision that has seemingly backfired on Klopp, who has lost Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold to injury, and has had to resort to using Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Fabinho at right-back as a result.

Alexander-Arnold was not expected to be sidelined for so long, while Gomez recently underwent surgery due to complications with his broken leg.

It has left Klopp looking rather silly as Liverpool have dropped points in consecutive games for only the second time this season, unable to rely on their previous defensive solidity.

Jamie Carragher believes Klopp made a “big mistake” in letting the England international go, while Tim Sherwood also agrees with our Mailbox. A reminder that Clyne had played 282 Premier League minutes for the Reds since May 2017.

“They’ve picked up some injuries,” he told Sky Sports.

“[Losing] Joe Gomez [to injury] is a big blow for them. I thought he was outstanding and it looks like there’s been a mistake with his injury, they seem to have left it a month or so and they’ve said he’s got to have an operation. That is poor.

“To let Clyne go to Bournemouth is amazing for me. Why would you get rid of someone? Trent Alexander-Arnold is injured as well so in the right-back area you really are struggling.

“You’ve got Milner who is going to play in there and do his best, is an outstanding professional and is capable – but to let Nathaniel Clyne go to Bournemouth is incredible to me. I think it is a massive error of judgement by Liverpool.”
