Margaret Kenyatta receives millions to support the beyond Zero Marathon

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta today received over Sh 163 million from local corporates in support of this year’s Beyond Zero Marathon.

The First Lady also received additional support of 50 laptops from Chinese firm Huawei, to support healthcare delivery through the Medical Safaris

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta noted that the Beyond Zero initiatives, including Medical Safaris, have had a huge impact on health delivery to vulnerable populations.

She stated that her current focus is on Obstetric Fistula, which continues to frustrate many poor women in Kenya.

Towards the end of last year, the First Lady kicked off the momentum towards the forthcoming marathon by registering as its first participant and receiving a new certificate changing the name of the event.

The spouses of Deputy President William Ruto and former PM Raila Odinga Mrs Rachel Ruto and Ida Odinga respectively also signed up to participate in the event.

The Beyond Zero Initiative has used the Half Marathon as the anchor fundraising platform, raising funds and resources to bring to focus key challenges facing Kenyans and build strategic partnerships that will address these challenges.

The marathon is scheduled for the 10th of March 2019 at Nyayo stadium. Kenyans have been called upon to participate in the marathon to contribute towards the achievement of it’s agenda.

The inaugural marathon was held in March 2014 followed by two other successful events in 2015 and 2016 before taking a two year break.

The Beyond Zero marathon presents opportunities to create long term partnerships with corporations in Kenya that focus in bringing healthcare closer to all Kenyans.

In response the First Lady shared her gratitude to all partners who called on her today at State House, Nairobi, and extended their support for the Beyond Zero initiative.

She also added that the impact on the ground is truly amazing, you can feel it and you can see it, even in the hard to reach areas.

Here is how you can contribute to the initiative.
