Apple’s Siri outs a 13-year old Student

A US based teenager has been arrested and detained by the police after he told Apple’s Virtual Assistant Siri that he wanted to shoot up a school. The teenager from Indiana was taken in after he posted the conversations with Siri on social media platforms, said Valparaiso Police in a Facebook post.

The boy told Siri that “I am going to shoot up a school,” and the virtual assistant replied with a list of the schools nearby in Indiana. The police went on to say that the boy was not in a position to access any weapon and shared the conversation as a joke.

The Valparaiso Police added that they boy didn’t make any direct threat to any school or person. They have opted to take the threat lightly. They said, “however, these types of communications are taken very seriously by the Valparaiso Police Department and our community,”

The student is being detained at Porter County Juvenile Detention Center on grounds of intimidation.

This incident was reported in a time the US will be marking the first anniversary Florida shootings-17 people (students and adults) were gunned down.

Shootings in the US has become a hot topic. In the year 2018, over 100 people were either injured or killed due to shooting. This data explains why the Valparaiso Police took this incident seriously and investigated.

In light of the several campaigns for stricter gun laws in the US, some people are suggesting that the school staff and teachers should have access to weapons to ensure safety.
