US Embassy issues a warning again as extremists target Nairobi

Just recently, Kenya witnessed two terror attacks within a span of a month! This is after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded in Nairobi’s CBD, which followed another terror attack at DusitD2 Hotel which claimed 21 lives.

The attacks followed a warning from US Embassy which had urged Kenyans to be vigilant. Again, the Embassy has urged Foreigners in Nairobi, Naivasha, Nanyuki, and some parts of the coastal city to remain vigilant, following reports of possible extremist attacks.

It has also urged them to always have their travel documents in sight and review their personal security plans.”We strongly recommend that US citizens traveling to or residing in Nairobi enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). The enrollment will give you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the embassy or nearest US consulate to contact you in case of an emergency,” it wrote.

This warning comes in the wake of heightened security alert in the country after the dusitD2 hotel complex terror attack that left 21 people dead.Over 10 people have so far been arrested and arraigned in court in connection with the attack as police continue a manhunt for its organisers.
