Sh633 million fraud! Police move in fast to arrest Nandi MP over forgery

Alfred KeterA case in which Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter was accused of forging Treasury bills valued at Sh633 million was scheduled today after it was postponed last year due lack of evidence documents.

The outspoken Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter is on the police radar after Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi issued a warrant of arrest against him over his role in the alleged Sh633 million Treasury Bills fraud and refusing to appear in court.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations are still puzzled over his role in the scandal.

It still remains unclear what role the MP played, and whether or not the dispute was about delayed payments as alleged by the legislator, or forged Treasury Bills (T-bills) as alleged by CBK.

“These three individuals presented a set of forged Treasury Bills, which were purportedly issued by the CBK a number of years ago.

“The total amount is Sh633 million,” CBK head of communications Wallace Kantai told the media.

Keter was scheduled to appear in court for for pre-trial hearing of the Ksh.633 million Treasury Bond forgery case alongside two others, businessmen Arthur Sakwa and Madat Saburali .

Today’s case was to confirm whether exhibits and other documents the prosecution intends to rely on the case have been supplied to the defence.

During the hearing in 2018, the magistrate had ordered that his(Keter) lawyers be granted access to CCTV footage showing the time the three entered CBK premises ,  held talks with the CBK governor on that day until the time of their arrest.

The magistrate had further directed the three to report to DCI headquarters once a week.

The prosecution had requested court to deny bond to Mr Chatur for allegedly possessing an ID belonging to someone else with the same particulars, and that his true identity is unknown.
