Kenyans have today marveled at the beauty of the beaches across Kenya and how they serve as a good attraction to both local and International tourists.

This comes in line to the call by the tourism CS to ensure that there  is a need to revamp the beaches as well as marketing them like other counties do.

Speaking during the symposium that was held today, Najib Balala said that Kenya must repackage & rebrand the beach and digitally market  to the world.

Any successful destination must have accessibility – seamless& friendly airports are critical with multiple sub hubs.

Balala therefore  expressed the need to upgrade Ukunda Airstrip to be Diani National Airport, improve Mombasa International Airport & Malindi International Airport as part of the strategy to make the beach destination sites accessible.

He also urged Kenyans to think out of the box and do business more innovatively, because our visitors’ tastes have changed and they are curious and demanding

“We must make our beaches, hustle free, clean & secure, on their part private sector must employ from local communities & support the local SMEs” he stated

Focus must be on enhancing the Beach experience, product development, benefits to local people and integrate them into the sector.

The Tourism CS also revealed the government’s plan is also to define the Coast & make the beach destination distinct, to enable us not only increase our numbers but offer memorable experiences.

Kenyans were also impressed by the creativity of the Lamu team that created a boat out of flip flops and plastic waste.

Many have commended this innovative project and encouraged like minded Kenyans to come up with more ideas and models that will help in the improvement of the coastal beaches.
